blah long run to paranoid and back 12.5 mi

It was supposed to be 15, but it turned out closer to 12 because I walked the last mile and a half....and several stretches in between. The good news is, the bursitis didn't bother me at all. The bad news? My left calf muscle feels trashed from top to bottom. It hurt the whole run, and I knew it was tight and achey going in, but didn't realize how messed up it would feel during the run. The ENTIRE two hours I was swinging from paranoia that I was about to injure myself to self-lecturing that I was being ridiculous and it was just a normal amount of pain. I even tried visualizing myself 5 miles ahead, turning the corner toward home and feeling great. But nothing seemed to work. Didn't help that around mile 9, two dogs came tearing out after me. I think they were friendly, but they scared the bajeebees out of me. Anyway, I went straight to the roller when I got home, and I'll keep trying to massage out the calf and the area around the achilles. I've got to take the next two days off due to kids' and husbands schedule anyway, so I'm hoping that gives me time to shake whatever this is and be ready to tackle 50+ next week.

    I use a foam roller, but I also use a rolling pin when my calves are bothering me. Maybe worth a try if you have one? One of my training buddied wears compression socks when she's having calf issues. Hope you can shake it.

    Thanks Daisy. I just got the rolling pin out to make birthday cinnamon rolls for my soon-to-be 8 year old, so might as well try it out on the calf too! :-) I have some compression socks too that I got when I was obsessing over the PTT. Will maybe break those out for the next run. I am probably making a bigger deal out of these flare ups than they really are....but I have just heard one too many horror stories from friends who didn't nip the nagging pains in the bud and ended up with fractures or surgery!

    Sorry this nagged you during your run today. What great distance you covered even with the pains. Foam roll and rolling pin your way to less soreness and keep us posted!
