Apparently the universe hates tempo runs too and was trying to do everything in its power to thwart me from getting it done. Started with a 1 1/2 mile warm-up, and just as I was getting ready to up the pace, the fire alarm in the gym went off. Had to vacate the building and lost about 15 minutes and all the benefits of the warm-up....now behind schedule just enough to make me wonder whether I should still attempt it. Decided to try--went up to speed cold, and felt ok I guess, didn't feel awful. Got to the last 1/10th of a mile and my phone rings and it's the maintenance people who said they would be at my house in a few minutes. Never mind that they had promised me yesterday I'd have a 30 minute warning! So I raced back to pick up the kids, raced home, and guess who wasn't there yet? Didn't get that last 1 mile cool down in, which I was actually looking forward to as my little reward after a hard tempo run. Oh well, I will just have to reward myself differently today. Like maybe with a peach pie from all those peaches we got yesterday from the CSA. YUMMO!
