Thunder and lightning is an excellent motivator, especially when you're still two miles from home. It didn't look the heavy stuff was going to come down for quite some time, so I set out on the 4-mile loop. It started getting dark at 1-mile ("I wonder if I can beat it home"), felt my first rain drops at 2-miles ("gee, these are BIG rain drops") and heard my first thunder slaps soon after that. The last half of the run was either exhilarating or terrifying, depending on the moment. Flashes and crashes were happening every 10 seconds or so, some closer to me than others. I consciously ran on the side of the street with the shorter trees, convincing myself that was the smart thing to do (is it?). With about a mile to go there was a strike so close I saw the blue light in my face and the the lightning struck a tree about 100 yards away. I quickly ran toward that tree, because everyone knows lightning never strikes the same place twice... It seemed to move away after that and I cruised the rest of the way home, counting my blessings. 2x20 push-ups & 2x40 crunches post-run.

What do YOU do when you're caught out in a thunder storm?
