-6F: A little warmer but the smog was so thick, you couldn't even see 50 feet in front of you in places. Glad I had my mask. Definitely slick in some places, had to take the pace pretty easy. Ran up the 572 stops to the memorial (and back down) at the halfway point. More people and traffic than I would have thought for Sunday morning. And a few accidents too. Actually surprised the altitude hasn't affected me as much as I thought it would. A really good run.

Nice! Can you run in that park at all, or is it pretty much just wild space?

Actually it's all developed now, with expensive condos. Even Zaisan, the WW2 memorial is being surrounded by high rises. There are mountains beyond which I hope to tackle this spring. Just got to find out from the locals if there is a trail to the top (most people drive to the other side and climb up - as it is a holy mountain).

Lisa, UB is over a million people, reminds me more of NYC than KC. At the Buddhist center, most of the staff speak English. I only know a few words in Mongolian but started lessons again yesterday. It's a tough language for foreigners to learn (new sounds, different grammar, different alphabet) but I really want to learn.
