i cried three times on this. 5 minutes into it, the rain started slashing us..sideways and all. i thought about quitting then, as you all know i get sick so easily, but kept going. it never really got easier, even when the rain stopped. i was so numb, and so slow that the group kept having to wait on me, which really stressed me out. i felt like i was ruining their cycle because of my slowness. none of the other slow cyclists were there, so i was behind by so much. and by the time i caught up to them, they'd take off again, so i never got a rest. i really pitied myself...our coach was really nice but no one else chatted to me...i just felt like a complete loser. i rushed home and spent an hour under the duvet. i sometimes have a really low self-esteem, and today was one of those days.

I'm sorry you had a bad training day I'm sure they weren't meaning to ignore you... Everyone starts somewhere you were prob just allot more aware of everything.... Your so not a loser Jgal well done on your awesomeness for sticking it out and we all have duvet hiding days me more often than not ;) x

Tough day, no doubt Julie. And that is all it was. You are a a beautiful, world class athlete that had a bad day. Take your time under the duvet. Take your time to feel bad. And then remember swimming the channel. Getting recently married. All the great things in your life. How much WE love you. One ride, maybe then, won't feel so important.

We all have tough days but you still managed to push on. That shows character and desire. Great qualities in my book. You'll be fine if you just get back up on that horse. Nice job!

Jgal, you will get faster and when it happens you will realize almost all of us have been there and get it. I ad a similar ride last year. The group thought they were all riding easy while all I was pushing my hardest the whole time. It sucks. I am so sorry you are feeling down but cycling is awesome. You will definitely get faster sooner. Keep going back.

No doubt a tough situation that many of us have experienced, but in the end your body, mind, & soul will benefit from this experience!

BUT, you got 28 miles on a rainy day and that is a victory! If it were easy, they would call it football.

I'm sorry you had a rotten experience out on the road today. You rock it out every workout, having a tough workout in funky weather will just make those future awesome workouts that much more fulfilling. You would have kicked all of their butts if you were swimming today!

Years ago I started playing golf (poorly) and a friend told me that if I wanted to get better I should make it a point of playing with people that were better golfers than me. He was right. Self-esteem shouldn't come from surrounding yourself with people who you can beat, but from having the courage to swim with the sharks. If anything, I hold you in even HIGHER esteem for seeing you challenging yourself.

We all have tough days, Julie, and you have accomplished so many amazing things, and an off day will never diminish that. Today was tough, but you didn't quit, you dug deep hung in there. You are a winner always, and I'm proud to be your friend!

That sucks! Know that we all have days like this. You are an amazing athlete! Bikes are all made SOOOOOO differently too. Frames, tires, models, world of difference! Keep that in mind. 28 miles in the weather you described is such an accomplishment. Hope your day turns around now that you got it OUT. ;)

I'm sorry it was a rough day. But you soldiered through it and did it! And you're all the more tougher for it now, and you'll be faster with more confidence because of it. Great job!

How does a World Record holder in anything have low self esteem and doubt about their abilities as an athlete. You finished the workout. And because of that, you will be stronger in that event next time. When you start kicking those other riders butts, and YOU WILL, don't treat them the same way. Show them kindness and encouragement, cause that's who you are. Now shake it off and have a great weekend.

Well done for sticking it out, sounds like a miserable ride on all counts. Sometimes an hour under the duvet is the perfect recovery though, hope you're feeling a bit cheerier now and spoiling yourself this evening.

Success for finishing it out! Just take the others for a little swim round an island ;).

Awwwwww so sorry to hear that. That does NOT sound fun at all. But I'll echo the others and say that it's pretty impressive that you hung in there, considering. That takes strength. Good work. Now eat some chocolate and relax. :)

Self esteem is transient! Anytime you are thinking something negative about yourself, thing of two positive things! Works a treat :-) I run alone cos I am slower than anyone I know! But it's probably more a cop out. Good on you for taking the challenge!

Sorry you had a tough time. But you persevered and got it done and that means a lot.

What you may not have had in speed, you had in persistence, which is also a great training benefit. Way to stay in the game!

awww honey! i just read this today. i hate this for you! i hope that you are feeling better since the cycling and that you can see days like this make you a stronger athlete. i would totally have felt the same way and it's OK. you are amazing for digging so deep to get this done - training w/ people who are an echelon above you makes you SO MUCH better and they are snobs for not upping your spirits. i would have talked to you :)
