Finally the Richmond Marathon report. I picked up my race packet on Friday still debating changing to the half, but decided that I would be disappointed in myself if I changed races. I woke up Saturday nervously ready to race. My friend Jenn dropped me off at the start and I began to anxiously wait by myself for the start. I saw Carrie and her friends waiting for the start of half, hugged and wished them luck. I luckily also saw Caleb and Matt before the start, I wished them luck and gave hugs. The race started and I settled into to run my race. I hoped to stay close to a consistent 10 min mile pace. Amy and Keri started to pass me around mile 4, I knew they would keep a good pace so I settled in behind them for a few miles. Awesome job, ladies! My half time was 2:24, not bad. I was feeling pretty good. The stomach cramps started just before the windy freezing bridge at mile 16. They were horrible (I wanted to curl up in a ball) and I was reduced to walking (I fast walked it even passing some people) during the cramps, which lasted for the next 10miles. My legs were feeling good, but my abdnomn muscles were a mess. The last miles were a mental game to push through the pain. I decide that I wasn't going to set a PR this day, so I just needed to enjoy the race experience as best I could. I high fived kids, enjoyed the tour of the city, smiled and thanked everyone I saw on the course. I finished this race, which is always the goal. As I was running the last bit to the finish, I heard my name and it was Jeanne, I enjoyed the dailymile shout out. I was exhausted at the end of this and my abdnmon was sore to the touch, ouch. Jenn was waiting at the finish to take care of me, she was awesome. The recover from this race has been surprisingly easy except for the sore core. I think that I could have PR had it not been for the stomach problems. There is always next time. Congrats to everyone who ran some amazing races in Richmond. Thanks to all the dailymile supporters.

Congrats on completing another marathon and fighting through the ab pain! The bridge at mile 16 was definitely a difficult obstacle. It sounds like you did a great job of remaining optimistic during a physical and mental challenge. Great job! Be proud of yourself!

Nice work Julia Faye. This turned out to be a lot tougher of a race than we expected. Glad you still pulled through!

I am in awe at everyone who accepted the challenge of running 26.2 and then did it in spite of the terrible weather, wind, and cold! You really toughed out a bad situation and competed in pain for 10 miles! That takes a person of "true grit" (move over John Wayne). We so badly wanted to watch you finish but had to get Caleb in out of the cold and damp because of his cramping and shivering. You finished a grueling race, Julia-Faye, and overcame many obstacles out there on the course alone! Way to go!
