Ugh. I stopped when injured ankles couldn't do it anymore. Got into some real PT finally, very helpful, fixing some core stuff. Apparently I was walking, standing, doing everything wrong. Appa... read more

good Powerline 2.13 mi 00:30 14:08 pace
Restart C25K, W2D1. No problem. Not too easy, but not so hard that I hit "I don't know if I can do this". In fact, the music was so good that I kept running during the programmed co... read more

Brie, I hurt my ankles trying to make the jump to 4 miles. I did stupid PT for almost two months and all it did was make me tired and sore ALL THE TIME with zero improvement in my "crazy ridiculously tight and unstable" muscles. I quit PT and I'm going back to this. I'm not sure what to do about my crazy ridiculously tight and unstable muscles, but I couldn't function with my legs hurting all the time. Running is better, and if I need to keep it under three miles, FINE. :-) But I had to start over.

RUN
alright Powerline 2.08 mi 00:31 14:55 pace
Includes warmup/cooldown. Started back with day 1 of C25K, for lack of a better idea. Everything hurts since the stupid PT for my "ridiculously restricted" ankles. Quit therapy and ankle... read more

Love the quote!! Not on any oral steroids, they scare me. Inhaled ones yes, but they aren't *supposed* to disrupt anything. My body just likes to be at exactly a certain point, it seems; it can be modified but quickly returns to its happy place. Just surprised at HOW quickly. And it'll be interesting to see what happens as I run again. Thanks for the kind words!!
And yes, very hard not to overdo, Pamela.

Aww Jen. Hang in there...it's hard to stay enthusiastic when you feel like crap. I make easy soup recipes using frozen veggies, low sodium fire roasted canned tomatoes, canned black beans (rinsed) and low sodium veggie or chicken broth and then I add either brown rice or noodles. Sometimes I add chicken, sometimes just veggies/beans. Easy to make, healthy and good when you don't feel well.

Says probably an unhappy tendon, here-use-these-insoles, your arch is collapsing putting some strain right there, and do some PT for strength and stability. Oh, and hang a floursack in a grocery bag off the top of my foot hanging straight off the edge of a bed, curl it up to help shinsplints. uhhhhhhh.... that sounds painful, I think I'll take the shinsplints. But if he's right that it's "just" a tendon and supporting the arch and some PT stuff can help the ankle, then, that's awesome.

The belief system is a peculiar thing... don't let it talk you out of something really wonderful for you... the payoff for going swimming sounds like EXACTLY what you need to shake off the 'discouraged'. Just a thought :)

Hmmmm. I dunno, that is a tough a draw. Talk to your doc again, and be honest about your life goals. I've been been thinking a lot about what kind of old person I want to become. Figure that out, and suddenly your path gets much clearer! Remember, this is a set back, not the end. Do what you need and (don't start again) continue on your journey!! :)

Don't think I have any answers for you, but agree with Shelley about being blunt if necessary with your doc. Hang in there, you'll be in my prayers.
