So I ran this year's SFM in 3:21:39. Seven minutes slower compared to last year's 3:14:21. Beating last year's time wasn't my focus. My main priorities were to have fun and feel strong. As several of you know, I casually trained for this event and even lost almost two weeks of training because I got the flu (mid July). I even thought about not running SFM at all. I'm glad that I did... I had an absolute blast as always and cannot see myself getting sick of running the marathon in the city that I was born in (and lived in for many years)...
Interesting Tidbits:
1. Like every year, my Garmin recorded 26.53 (last year was even longer - it depends on the various detours that you may have to take on the latter stages of the course). I understand that courses are a bit longer than 26.2 miles in order to keep their official certification but SFM's is the most extended out of all the marathons I have done thus far.
2. At around mile 24, this dude smacked my a$$ real hard and yelled "Hey!". When I looked at him, he apologized profusely stating he thought I was somebody else.
3. After the run, I dropped my iPhone at The Embarcadero and cracked the screen #FAIL.
4. The hills seem to get steeper each year :P
Garmin Stats:
Time: 03:21:43
Distance: 26.53 mi
Elevation Gain: 1,722 ft
Avg Pace: 07:36 min/mi
Congrats to all the SFM'ers and racers this weekend!

that was hell funny...getting smacked in the ass! Anyway, just awesome pace...for someone who's casually trained for this one. :-)

Fantastic time Jay! Too funny about the butt smack! I know what you mean about the course length - my Garmin logged 13.33 for the 2nd half. What's up next?

Thank you very much all. All the feedback and encouragement has helped fuel me through all the miles... I am feeling pretty good today. No DOMS yet. Still feel the same as yesterday. Well.. My butt-cheek feels bruised. Ha.. That totally caught me off guard - especially at mile 24 when I was a running zombie... As far as the iPhone, I purchased a Squaretrade warranty for it back in the day... I will soon find out how good their service is!
@Todd - SFM missed ya this year. But totally understand... ;)
