    2 mile warmup, 4 @ MP, 2 mile cooldown.

I moved tomorrow's workout to today as we have family coming in town, and there would be less chance of missing the key workout.

    Miles at pace:
    7:14, 7:13,... read more

My wife just pointed out that in every running photo, my right thumb is up. I tried to save it by saying I always wanted to be able to say "yeah, dude" (think Steve-O) to the cameramen at any time. Seriously, though. What's up with that?

Congrats, man! Glad you kept your right wheel just inside of the infield grass/shoulder/curb there in this pic (Nascar reference). Agreed, that was close! Then again, 'if you ain't cheatin', you ain't trying'.

  6. RUN
alright Really easy 11.5 km 01:00 08:23 pace

On the treadmill to keep it really easy, plus the fact that the wind will actually blow you over today. Really really hot in the gym today, I had a puddle around the treadmill afterward...

  7. RUN
    Warm up/Cool down 4 mi 00:33 08:15 pace

Warmed up at the race. Ran home after the race!

  8. RUN
    Göteborgsvarvet 13.1 mi 01:34 07:11 pace

Well, it's a PR. By 8 seconds over last year... To be perfectly open, I'm disappointed a bit, and feel like I'm capable of going under 1:30. I lost it on the last 5k, just when I should have been a... read more

Hey, brother- way to go. I understand the disappointment, but you ran a great race. You'll get there. I wish I could have been there with you. Next year.

Still a great half-marathon Jay, and good training to just run through it while keeping focused on the marathon.

  9. So I won this race today...not really. I did PR in the half by 8 seconds, but didn't deliver the race I wanted...more later.

    • Caleb M.

PR is a PR. Congrats! Looking forward to the full report so we can make the most of it for Stockholm.

  10. RUN
    Easy + strides 8.2 km 00:44 08:32 pace

Stayed on the treadmill today to force an easy run. 4x30 sec strides at the end. 10K pace. Göteborgsvarvet tomorrow! 63512 runners!

  11. RUN
    Tempo 7.07 mi 00:52 07:18 pace

    2 mile warmup, 3@HMP, 2 mile cooldown.

    At speed splits:
6:55, 6:37, 6:44 - guess what was uphill into the wind and what was downhill? Consistent perceived effort. Pretty hard driving rain through... read more

If you could go on a run/bike/swim with anyone, who would it be?

My wife. I so wish that she and I could share this...

Man I am the exact opposite. The wife doesn't run, but if she did I'd want her to have her own group. Sure, we could talk about it, but I don't think I'd run with her. Kinda like the Seinfeld episode about "Worlds colliding..." Running is my thing. It would feel strange to have her injected into it.

I LOVE running with my wife! Her normal pace is painfully slow for me, so we don't do it very often. Makes for a good recovery run for me.

  13. RUN
    Easy 6.05 mi 00:49 08:08 pace

Felt really good to run easy at this pace today. I'm a bit worn out. Cold rain the whole run...

  14. RUN
    8 (or 9) x 1 min 6 mi 00:44 07:22 pace

Warm up and 8x 1 min @ 5k pace with 2 min recovery, cool down. Except I think I did 9. I lost count... All were within 2 seconds of 6:12 pace

What is your athletic quote or mantra or attitude?

No mantra. Attitude is: run a lot.

  16. RUN
    Easy 7.05 mi 00:56 07:57 pace

This was a bit tough less than 12 hours after a 20 miler yesterday. Didn't get much sleep last night either...

    • Greg S.

Looks like we ran similar easy paces today - though yours is coming off a much tougher run than mine. Nice job.

Man, 20 miles is a long way. This marathon business is serious stuff! Anyway, that was the last 20 miler in this cycle. That makes 3 20 milers, 2 18 milers and 2 16 milers. Gothenburg Half Mara... read more

What does running or riding or swimming or walking or whatever you do athletically give you that nothing else in life does?

    Time alone.

  20. RUN
MP Pace Tempo 9.2 mi 01:06 07:11 pace

Plan was 1 mile warmup, 10 miles at MP (7:20), 1 mile cooldown.

Actual: 9 mile tempo, no warmup or cooldown, a bit faster then plan.

I think I overestimated my ability to dedicate the time I want... read more
