good National Harbor - Mt Vernon Trail 9.5 mi 02:09 13:34 pace

68* with 90% humidity - I'll take it! Suffice it to say that today's LSD over the bridge was a fair bit easier than two weeks ago, so much so that our 9.5 miles today took only a few minutes more than our 8 miles last time. The weather was cool with lots of cloud cover and mist, but no actual rain.

Joel J. and I were up and at 'em and on the trail by 0600. I had a piece of toast with jam and a cup of coffee, which seems to work for me that early in the morning. Here comes my crazy statement of the post: The first 5 miles were easy. (hahaha...) Approaching our turnaround point, I started nibbling on my sports beans (lemon lime flavored.. meh), and taking my first true sips of water from my new Camelbak Annadel (which I LOVE).

I didn't really start feeling tired until approaching Mile 7, and our pace slowed a bit. I have no idea how I got myself back up the bridge, between running out of steam, running uphill, and RUNNING INTO THE WIND, but somehow I did.

[Sidebar: I REALLY could've done without the wind pushing against me while I'm trying to drag my happy self uphill on Mile 8. It just needed to be said.]

We high-fived at the top of the bridge, and coasted our way down to finish our 9.5 miles. Allegedly, our pace was closer to 11:40 during that last mile, so the whole "go slow and take walk breaks early" advice may actually be substantiated...

All in all, a good day!
