Hmmm... I've been seeing a lot of blurbs about virtual races in articles and blogs. Something to think about!

Since I gave up those gels and processed energy bars and all refined sugar, have had more energy and better recovery.

When I first started running, I totally abused them. Now I have a whole pile of them that I hardly ever use. I've actually started taking a few hard candies with on my rides. They don't melt and if I start feeling nauseasus or dizzy from the heat, they give me what I need without such overwhelming sugar rush.

Great insight! I know that I will never be in the front, even at local races. I do run for enjoyment now. However, I still dream and hope to qualify for Boston!!!!

When my dad was put on strict diet after heart surgery, my mom and I ate the same things he did. I didn't see much change in weight, but I do think it has to do with me being 4'10" and my base metabolism being different than tall folk.

It would be interesting to see how fast I could improve dropping 10lbs which would be the equivalent of someone taller dropping 20+lbs

It's a nice program, huh? I have been on WW since the end of January and am down just over 30 pounds now. Another 25-ish to go until I'm at the top end of the healthy weight range.

Actually, I don't mind tapering. It gets me more meditative--not obsessive--about my race strategies and goals. I also visualize in my mind the sore spots healing and my body getting mighty for the big day.
