I'm sorry Erik. Why am I apologising you might ask? Or maybe not. Anywhooo! Had to laugh at your post since I feel the same way about the stationary bike. So I say: I like to bike! All along wishing that some day, it might be true. :+)

Yes, it does, when I manage to get there. All 0.05 miles of it. :) But that's about a billion times better than the TM. Hmm, the Y has treadmills with TVs on them. I wonder if that will work. Oddly, though, I don't want to use a TM around other people. I'd be self conscious, I think.

Nice Job:
It can be hard to run on the treadmill. I watch television shows or movies. Anything to distract myself. Nice run!

Unfortunately the TM at Golf Evolution only looks out on State and 10th. The TV doesn't work. Podcasts don't occupy or distract me visually. :( We can't move it to the basement soon enough. Of course, by the time we do, it'll be spring.

Nice job tonight! It's definitely a balancing act - go out too fast and you end up dying toward the end. But go too slow and you don't get the maximum benefit. Sounds like you are figuring it out though! :)

Of course you can do it on the treadmill Erik. Nothing wrong with that. I can never run my practice runs at a consistant pace all through it. I might be able to hold the right pace for about 1/2 of the whole run, but everything evens itself out in the end. :+)

Thanks. Thus far I've avoided the treadmill because I get so incredibly bored after a mile that I can't take it anymore and quit. But I think the varying pace of speed or tempo work will help me stay more mentally fresh. Thank you!

You are fast! Maybe too fast? I mean, I don't know anything about anything and maybe I am just a slow poke...so, you basically split the 800's in two, running the first part slow and then second half fast to average out to your pace? Do you know your pace on the slower portions? I am horrible a judging pace too so I totally relate. But I am impressed with your speed!!

Wednesdays in my Patent Pending Plan are my "tempo run" days. Half a mile at 8:30, half backed off to 9:00. The idea is that 9:00 will feel nice and slow after pushing myself through the 8:30. Training plan notes are here: http://nslog.com/2012/02/03/running_training_plan .
