John F. so i'm toying with th...
Dailymile makes it easy to keep track of your workouts. Map your routes and share with a community of active people.
So I'm toying with this idea of having some sort of strength challenge on dailymile. I haven't lifted in quite a while, but something about this idea is somehow interesting to my inner meathead. Like a competition would be a nice motivator to get in there and do it.
I'm thinking we could calculate it based on body weight, so folks that weigh 100lbs are running neck-and-neck with folks (like me) that weigh twice that.
Ultimately, it's sorta dumb, because raw physical strength on the bench in no way helps our goals as a runner. But damn if this isn't still appealing.
Any ideas? Anyone interested? I know a lot of us do strength training, but it's very much a secondary thing on dailymile.
What say you?

I'm in! I love this idea. I have lots of strength training workouts made up from my trainer and I have been doing the same 3 basic workouts for a few weeks and seeing improvement. The challenge could be as simple as lift 3x a week, or do a core, back, arms, and legs workout of 30 minutes each every week. Or we could get technical and post the workout and list the sets/reps/weights and have people complete it? Interested in hearing other ideas on this! :)

If it involves lifting 2 5lbs dumbbells less than 3 times then I am in!! :-)

Anne—ooooooh I like it. I was thinking something infinitely more cavemanesque—like 3-rep bench press max (as a percentage of body weight). Hmmmmmm... Hopefully we get some more comments on this—it could be fun!

well, I need to get stronger for the AT in April, so I'm interested. A competition would do me good.
