I think that's the equivalent to blowing a rod in a car or getting a hernia on a man. :). Bummer.

  8. LDL 175 (up 50% in 6 months), HDL 41 (down 6%). Bad, bad numbers. I knew I back-slid a little, but that's kinda shocking (or screwy). Going to go back to a quasi-vegan diet.

10K PR and a fun time pushing the pace. Ran the 1st mile in 7:01 which was too fast, I was starting to get a side-ache, which never really went away. Slowed down, tried to "breathe strong"... read more

My goal is for sub 4 hours, so around a 9 pace. But just to finish a marathon without walking much would be OK!

Pretty interesting, on NBC, tape delayed from Houston, which kinda sucked cuz I saw the results posted beforehand. Both men's & women's narrowed down to a small group pretty early on. Shalane Flanagan, a middle distance runner (bronze 10K in Beijing) doing her first marathon competition totally dominated in the end, with her training partner, Kara Goucher hanging on for third, and Desiree Davila, looking relaxed the whole time. in 2nd.

In the men's, Meb Keflezki ran away from everyone in the last few miles, including Ryan Hall and Abdi Abdirhaman, who grew up in Tucson (I think he was one of the 'Lost Boys' of the Sudan) and ran for Pima & UofA.

Meb's 36, and had also taken flak for running (winning) the NYC just a couple months before. Ryan's the fastest American born marathoner, ever, but was 10th in Beijing. It's great to see that they'll all get another chance in London.
