5.7 miles to rec center (7:01 pace), strength, core, then 4.7 miles home (7:19 pace). Explored yet more area streets today and found a shortcut to the Rec Center. Wish I hadn't. I hate shortcuts. Really warming up out there by the end. Think I need to consume more calories, felt short of energy today. And I ate a ton yesterday, including a late, late dinner with the wife. Maybe it was the 3 glasses of wine I felt.
Oh, and I have developed a running injury from all this training. My wrist is bruised from the Garmin. I had to switch it to the right wrist for the run home. Awkward, but better than annoying. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/47247504

Wow, runner's wrist? That's a drag. Seriously nice 10 miles with your core work yet again there, Greg! I like exploring streets for future routes and stuff. Bummer it shortcutted you to the destination, though. Great running, though, as always!

Nice job for no energy!

Some people can drink the night before a run, I can't. More than one beer/wine/drink and I'm not going to do well the next day. I'm not even a lightweight! I just can't drink the night before a hard run for some reason. My friend, Dave, though, can put away a six pack of PBR, eat two big bowls of chili, and still whip my tail in race the next day. I think he was born to be an ultra runner.

I've never heard of Garmin wrist! Great run, Greg. You're a strong dude!

lol @Dave. Runner's wrist. :) I knew it was just a matter of time before all those August miles would catch up with you, Greg. ;) Great run. I'd have a hard time getting out of bed the morning after three glasses of wine, let alone get out and put in quality miles.

Re: Calories. I too am realizing that on harder runs, I need food pre-run. And my week-day bike rides I go without pre-bike food entirely and just feel sluggish.

Thanks all - for some reason the wrist only hurts when I put the Garmin on it. @Gordon, I actually ate two English muffins about 90 minutes before leaving the house, still wasn't enough today. And @Jeanne & @Kent, my first BQ did come after drinking two glasses of red wine the night before Chicago.

Thanks again - @Brian, there are dozens back around the schools in the NW corner of the map that I haven't explored yet. And I did run a little bit on Cromwell today - sorry!

LOL! If you ever get some down time, google Oliver Cromwell, and you'll find out more. As long as you were stomping hard on Cromwell, that's fine!!

Great miles for the day and week so far!

@Brian, I know a little of the history (a bit of a history buff). We Americans have a penchant for naming streets with a lack of sensitivity. I'm sure there is a Genghis Khan Avenue somewhere, for example.

Too funny about the Garmin issue--bummer! I have the larger band and keep it loose. Tough call on the alcohol. Nice mileage. You might have to carry a gel with you!

Before I had to send my Garmin in for repair, I was thinking of removing the rubber wrist band and using the substitute velcro band that came with it. Over the course of a long run, I think my wrist gets a little smaller allowing the Garmin to move around. You might try using the velcro band if you still have it.

That might be the saddest injury I've ever heard of. Glad you have a recovery plan, though...

Well, if a runner had to pick an injury to have, a bruised wrist seems like a good option. Nice work on another good strength day.

Third 10 miler in a row -- and a fantastic pace to boot! Sorry about the wrist -- those Garmins are just too darn heavy :-)

Interestingly enough, I once set a PR after half a bottle of Boone's Farm. Must be the carbs.

Super paced 10, Greg! I believe this is the first time I've heard about runner's wrist!

Why hate shortcuts? Shortcuts are an invitation to do figure-8s -- all the miles and twice the fun. :) Brilliant week you've got shaping up, Greg!

Runners wrist...damn this is a dangerous sport. :)

That would be a Garmin-use syndrome/injury, I think.

Another excellent run/strength workout combo Greg. I'll never have to worry about garmin wrist as I wear a sweat band under my garmin to keep it from sliding around. That did bother me.

It's become tradition to have a drink or two the night before a long run or race for me. Margaritas have carbs, right? ;)

I've had the Garmin wrist tenderness before with the 305. Wife bought me the 405 last Christmas - no probs at all with this model.

@Corey, actually I wear the 405. The 305 sure looks bulkier though!

You've been very consistent with the strength and core. Must be starting to get pretty ripped by now. I need to do more!

Thanks Bill, I'm not sure about "ripped" but I think the injury-prevention benefits are definitely there.
