Plan called for 19, but what's the point of running 19 miles? So, 20 it was, first of 4 for this training sequence. Ran on the Towpath Trail for the first time in over 6 years - used to do this every other long run or so, but when time grew more valuable and I shifted to the predawn, I went away. It was refreshing to run this beautiful, flat, fast trail again, from Valley View down past Boston Store and back. Someone this past week referred to the Towpath Trail (specifically the half marathon in the fall) as boring - if this is boring, then I think you miss the point of running.
I didn't realize when heading out, but tomorrow's Burning River 100 uses some parts of the Towpath Trail, so I had the thrill of running the segments from Frazee House to Station Road, and near the Boston Store. It gave me chills and strong motivation to push the pace thinking of the experience that Des, Andy O., DirtDawg, and others will enjoy (at times) this weekend. The weather conditions should be great, and it's an honor to live near an event drawing such a field. I hope you enjoy our little corner of the state and have an event to remember.
This run got really tough around mile 17, just started wearing down. Happy I was able to hold the pace reasonably well the last three miles, I was certainly looking at the watch frequently to count down the distance. The Mizuno Wave Riders held up pretty well, though I can certainly understand the complaints I've seen from others about feeling too much of the road. The Brooks Ghost 3's will get their chance on next weekend's 20 miler. Weather conditions were great, mid 60's at the start and low 70's at the finish. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/42422440

Thanks everyone. @Greg - I don't really fuel during the run - I had a big late dinner last night (protein/carb combo), and two English muffins around 2 hours before the run this morning. Only calories during the run was ~18 oz. of Gatorade. I was regretting that at ~18 miles, could have gone for a gel or two.

Incredible 20 miler, Greg -- way to push through those final 3 miles! Nice that you could run that in the cooler temps and that's very cool that you ran on part of the BR 100 course.

This morning I ran 4 1/2 miles at what I thought was a pretty speedy pace... about 10-15 seconds/mile SLOWER than you ran 20. Great run, Greg.

Oh my word--I can't believe you held that pace for 20 miles. Incredible job, man!

Thanks again all - @Des, that's pretty early in the race, so I hope you're not delirious already by then! I didn't realize how close to your home the race starts, you walking to the start, or saving up? @Drew, I'm just hoping I have enough left in the tank and legs for my own 9 mile pace run tomorrow. Not too sure about that.

I've missed several weeks of DM, but it is good to see that you continue to knock out great runs.

Awesome job. 20 still seems kind of daunting to me. My 14-miler today was my longest run ever, but seeing posts like this from my DM friends makes me anxious to get to those miles too.
