Tip: playing water volleyball with an almost-5yo on your shoulders, and jumping up so that he can throw the ball over the net, is not good preparation for a hill workout. I was more sore this morning than I was after Sunday's 20-miler. Except for the 5x600m hill repeats (consistency not really there - 2:39, 2:30, 2:39, 2:43, 2:37), this run was just a warm, humid, sore slog/swim. I have a new appreciation for the work it takes salmon to swim uphill.

I think the volleyball thing was your hill workout! When I read about you and your sons, I miss my girls being little, and then I'm glad they're not. Guess you need to SCALE back today (ha ha).

Nice run on sore legs from some really good XT. The 5 yo will remember that much longer than your legs will be sore.

Absolute perfect analogy. Really great to go those hill repeats in. Now I have a visual of a salmon trying to run up a hill.

See, that is why following your training is so valuable. The next time I am presented with the decision of playing water polo with a 5 year old on my shoulders the day before a big workout, I don't have to experiment and see if it will work. I already know that I will need to take a pass or rearrange my schedule. Greg, if you are going to make a go at this coaching thing you are going to have to quit giving this stuff away for free.

Nice run through the soup today, Greg. Pre-exhausting yourself with kid-on-shoulder-water-volleyball the night before is a very interesting training method, there just might be a blog post in there somewhere! We had the same heavy humidity by me today too, but I was fortunate enough this morning that my soup turned into a full on downpour.

Tough one Greg... good job gutting it out. Maybe a bit of DOMS too from Sunday, MP workouts can be surprisingly hard on you. Rest up and recover well :)

Solid hill effort, Greg. The kids on the shoulders routine becomes a real problem as they grow - I had my 6 yo daughter standing on and then jumping off my shoulders in a swimming pool this weekend and I really felt it yesterday.
