While it was cooler this morning (at 65 degrees), the humidity was higher than I expected (83%) so I was nervous about this tempo run. Then the "low battery" alert on my Garmin chirped at me in mile 1. So I shortened the warm-up from 3 to 2 miles and just went for it. Able to knock off the 5 lactate threshold miles just fine (6:20, 6:15, 6:10, 6:07, 6:01). Finished off with 3 cool-down miles, then the Garmin died as I was checking stats at the end.
Walking all over the zoo with the family (including a bit at the end with our 4yo on my shoulders) seemed to be a good recovery workout, as the legs felt great last night and this morning.

nice tempo Greg. fighting the low battery on the Garmin is like seeing how many miles you can get in the car after the gas light comes on. perfect timing for you it seemed.

Dang, those are some nice looking LT miles. My Garmin is funny. Sometimes low battery means another hour, sometimes it dies right away. Glad it lasted through the run. Oh, and I know that 4 yo on the shoulders recovery well. Heh.

I suppose the Garmin was not designed to sip juice from its batteries like the HP-12C calculator (I checked at hpmuseum.org and there is a working 12C on a 22 year-old set—older than the GPS system itself, I suspect.)

Excellent job, Greg! You're definitely in top form. I found myself breathing a sigh of relief when you said your Garmin died after the workout (being the Garmin addict that I am). I hope your can stay in 'the zone' for a long time to come, injury-free!

Great tempo miles, Greg, but I am really impressed with the kid on shoulders recovery. I limit that (esp now that my youngest is approaching 6yo) because I always end up with a really sore neck.
