great EllipticART 00:40

I, Predawn Runner, solemnly swear that, if ever I should face muscular, tendon, or ligament pain again, I will run directly to see Dr. Keyes. I will not pass PT. I will not pay $200.
Thanks Sarah G. for giving Tim the 411 ahead of my visit, it let us get right into the heart of the matter. I never would have guessed what ART could do when performed directly on the Achilles. I figured he'd focus on loosening the calf or something like that and at some point the Achilles would heal up, but I left that office feeling better than I have since even before the "formal" injury started. We're playing it cautious on running, planning at least one or two more treatments before trying again to make sure adhesions are staying clear, but this is definite progress. Oh, and I think I sold him a copy of my book. A little soreness below the heel, but nothing else this morning, after a slightly-shorter elliptical session so I can get my wife out the door to work early.
Finished "What I Talk About When I Talk About Running" and now starting "Running the Edge" - two different ends of the running spectrum, I suspect, but both grounded in running as a routine that helps make us better people.

@Chaz - http://www.activerelease.ca/2_ARTOverview.html - Active Release Technique - it's massage done while extending or contracting the affected tissues, to work out adhesions and manage scar tissue.

Um, hell yes. I'm through the first 60 pages of your book by the way and loving it. I'm getting ready to head to Keye's and was planning to turn to the page where you talk about your experience and greet him with a reading from it :)

Very good news. I love it when you don't have to "waste time" with the professional by explaining over and over what's going on too. Really hoping this is the secret buddy!

Good news! I had bad results from PT with my Achilles and just stopped going. Will have to see if ART is available around here.

I totally agree. I had ART about two months ago and it helped tremendously. But I also wanted to say that I have been very anti going to the doctor everytime one of us gets hurt. I thought that resting and icing would suffice and I was tired of all the time at doctors. Then my daughter who has been resting but not getting better went to the doctor yesterday and they think she has a chip out of her bone floating around in there damaging her further. I could kick myself.

Great news Greg. I had little doubt ART would help you immensely. This combined w/your excellent ancillary work will have you ready to rock again quickly soon...your task is going to be using restraint.

Dr. Keyes is getting quite the reputation in NEO. I've seen him recommended by a number of different people now. I've also heard it can take a while to get an appointment. Was that your experience?

Thanks all - @Bill, it took me about 10 days to get in this time (probably about the same when I first saw him early last year), but once you're in they do a nice job of scheduling the follow-ups pretty regularly.

Good news Greg. Hope the therapy continues to work. I had an Achilles issue about a year ago and regular PT didn't do much for me. I think it caused other issues. Glad the ART is working for you.

Big "like." I haven't felt a need for ART yet (knocks on wood) since massage and the chiro seem to do the trick for me, but after all the praise you and Sarah have for Dr. Keyes, I'm definitely keeping that recommendation in my head! I'm glad you had such good results!
