Plan called for 9 miles at marathon pace, which I knew would be tough after yesterday's 20. Went out quick, but nearly gave up short of a mile knee was popping like crazy. Turned around to walk home, stretch the IT band a bit, then decided to give it... read more

Plan called for 19, but what's the point of running 19 miles? So, 20 it was, first of 4 for this training sequence. Ran on the Towpath Trail for the first time in over 6 years - used to do this every other long run or so, but when time grew more valu... read more

New @brooksrunning Ghost 3's arrived yesterday. Had hoped to give them a post-dusk try-out last night but a storm blew in and washed those plans away. So I went out for a mid-afternoon run today. Color me pleased. While the plan was an "easy"... read more

Glad to hear the Ghost are a keeper, sometimes I worry when I switch brands.

Nice post, I think you're right that the minimalist trend could develop into much more than a fad. I wonder if Nike and others who jump into this market will also invest in educating runners about the transition to running without a big cushy heel?

Jay - Brooks had better get moving on that minimalist shoe they were supposedly working on. Last I heard it had been shelved. New Balance is about to enter the fray with the Minimus - looks very interesting!

Nice post Greg! I think a paradigm shift is definitely in order here. However, what that new paradigm will be has yet to be determined. It's nice to hear about the controversy from a business point of view just as Peter did from the biomechanist perspective. It's so awesome that everyone can approach this from their own unique background. It adds so much to the debate! Thank you for that.

Been many weeks since I've done a tempo run, so pushed this one up to 4 miles. Felt tired and achy starting out (actually, was hoping my son was up so I could use it as an excuse), but loosened up pretty quickly with a 7:20 first mile. 2 miles warmup... read more

  6. New blog post - http://wp.me/pVkjc-5t - review of the Nathan Auto-Cant 2 x 8 oz. hydration (and nutrition) belt - I highly recommend it - great fit, secure flask storage with easy access, and it doesn't impede your arm swing.

    • Adam M. Adam M.

This is similar to the belt I have (Nathan Speed 2 Waistpack - 2 10oz bottles, velcro fastener). This seems like a streamlined version of that belt. Good review.

@Adam - I think the difference is the "Auto Cant" feature, but I don't know that it really has that much of an impact. @Linda - I haven't tried the Camelbak and am not really comfortable with the concept, I like to be as minimal as possible in what I haul along.

Nice review. I haven't used a hydration belt, might be something to think about getting.

I got a 20 mile run that weekend. Depending on the heat factor, it might be early, otherwise I'm usually out at 8 or 9ish, but I'll keep this in mind!! Motivation!

Ahh, now I can compete. I was throwing this weekend's challenge out the window due to my own personal conflicts. I am doing some hard core training like Brian A and Jen S on the alarm clock details; now all I have to work on is the miles.
