So, I figured out my new watch after the Mr. showed me how to do the splits several times :)
I timed every 100m
1. first 100m was 2min 44 sec
2. second 100m was 4min 16 sec
3. third 100m was 4min 27 sec
4. fourth and last 100m was 3min 13 sec
So.. I see that i start out wicked excited.. then go OMG in the middle i am gonna die... and then suck it up to finish hard.
hm... didnt realize the middle times were so long- those are where i took a breathing stop. Going to have to spend these last two weeks maybe starting out a little slower so i can be stronger in the middle and still finish strong.
I think.
lol!

Swim it baby! SWIM IT!

I think it might be a combination of swimming endurance and the excitement factor. As you swim more, your times will come down :) As for the first mile.. just think of... baseball. I hear that calms people down ;)

Oh, and great swim!!

I definately have an excitment factor... going to have to get control of it a little bit!

It probably has to do with technique. Swimming has more to do with technique than fitness. With the proper technique you should be able to swim this distance and not need a break. Keep working on your technique and your times will become faster AND you will feel fresher coming out of the water.
With that said, Great swim!!

Great swimming. it's easy to do faster: start with the middle, then twice the start and finish like you're used to.

Swimming is a weakness of mine but I love the water! I have a feeling you're fit enough for more consistent times, but it probably does boil down to the flailing body parts ;) (which I know I have!!) Should be fun to watch the video and see what you can work on. Good job today!

To me, a lap is when I dive in and coast to the other side of the pool. When my inertia stops, hopefully my feet can touch bottom and I can walk to the other side.

I've only just started timing my laps in the last few weeks. Quite interesting :) Are you taking a breather after each 100 or are you also stopping half way? I normally hit the split/lap button after each set distance, ie in your case after each 100m, then pressing the split/lap button when I set off for my next set distance. Effectively you get your splits for your lap and rest periods. Hope that makes sense :)

Short and sweet. Girl I like your smile.

Great swim! Fun lap timing. If your tri is open water/mass start-most important to be relaxed and practice calm breathing. Also efficiency is key (as said by John). Remember, tri swim is very particular- you don't want to exhaust yourself...esp. not your legs!

Ah, a pool swim tri...good choice! The only shit part of those are the waves and the odd rogue swimmer who veers into oncoming traffic :)

the good thing is we go up one lane and come down a seperate lane... no one is back and forth inside the same lane! so hopefully no oncomming traffic. At least i think that is how it was explained in the email i just got from them! lol!!! i have to attend the 'first timers' meetingk the night before or I am not allowed to compete! I actually like that they are doing that...and it is ALL WOMEN :) hee hee
