I'm not very good at TTs...way to ADD for it ;) but a couple key things:
1: Don't go out too hard.
2: Don't try to crush it on the hills.
3: Try to stay focused on your breathing.
4: Try to keep a smooth pedal stroke and a hood cadence.

I love these rides, but I seriously spend the entire time chasing them - no recovery at all! 26.15 mph high; 26 mph winds.

Does chasing them imply there's a gap and you're not drafting? If so, you're working HARDER than the pack and getting a better workout than them.

I like smaller group rides or solo rides, that way I can work harder. I only want to draft if I'm recovering or tired, other than that I want to work.

Oregon Ride with My Dad 126.73 mi 07:42 16.5mph pace
The first 20 miles were 17% grade and the last 30 miles were right into the wind coming off the ocean, as we came up over the mountains. The rest of the ride we averaged 21 mph.
