Whole body felt kind of tense/wonky for the first mile, but loosened up after. Kept a pretty consistent pace of 10:00-10:17 after a slow first mile warm up (10:34). This run was all about products. Had to get some Spandex shorts, after last week's "runner's rash." Happy that Target has a pair that seems to work for $15. Also got some Body Glide. Tried a new refueling option...Stinger honey gel. Didn't care for the taste/texture - too sweet. Also damn near impossible to open, even with my teeth. Can't imagine trying to do it on the move. Seems to upset my stomach, too. Having a hard time with my post-run meal, which usually isn't a problem. ;) Happy this run is done and looking forward to next weekend...half marathon distance, woot woot!     I got a pair of running shorts this week too. itching to try them out...hoping they dont give me runners rash! Great run, you are doing awesome! The only gel that I can tolerate is GU chocolate outrage. All the other flavors make me gag!

    Twelve miles - Awesome! I'm jealous - my right foot is keeping me out of running for the time being. Great work on starting to figure out nutrition - yeah, it takes a while, but thats half the point of long runs.
    (BTW you might want to try to pick up some carbogain - it's 100% maltodextrin, and not incredibly sweet. Can mix it with simple syrup to taste, and end up with a gel that is lower fructose than honey - so it might suit your stomach better)

    wow, already up to the half distance. Nice Job. That body glide is a life saver. I never liked gels for fuel. My stomach doesn't take them very well either. I love me some cliff bars for my fuel. the small snack size ones. this is the perfect distance to test all those out, you are doing awesome.

    Awesome dozen there Shanna. Glad you are getting used to some new equipment as well. The body glide I think is key. I use that stuff like Tabasco and put that $hit on EVERYTHING. Well, you know what I mean. Good gear is worth the price. As far as opening the gels, some people I think pre-snip them to help the tear during a race. I use the Clif Shots and they come with a notched top that I usually have little trouble with.

    Woo hoo! Check out the mileage! Awesome job, girl! I can't handle GU/gels - it's a texture thing. I do like GU as well as the Jelly Belly Sport Beans.

    That is why you test that stuff on your long runs. The fueling thing would be tough to learn if you tried it in a race. I also use the clif shot gels. I have friends that like their blocks as well. they are like gummy bears, give those a try.
