Rest Days....I was really not sure what to expect about recovery from the little ultra marathon on Saturday morning. Obviously it is the farthest I have ever run. The day of, I felt almost too good. Yesterday and today, I have heavy legs. Quads are sore (that's a given from the descent). Yesterday my flank areas felt tender, but that came and went. I obviously didn't break any land speed records, and I think that served me well. I did really well with hydration which was critical. It was only 73 when I started, but once the sun was over the ridges, it was 90, and by the last half hour, triple digits. I am a bit curious what an ultra in nice cool weather would be like!
Overall, I feel better than expected. I built mileage very slowly over weeks and built the long run up too. I think my orthopedist would be proud : ) He would be proud of me for taking two days off from running to allow my body to recover. Although I am going to swim today...have to do something with these toxins...

    I think swimming is a great way to recover from your ultra. Maybe green tea will help with the toxins too? Glad to hear you are feeling so well.

    i have never even thought about running as far as you but a good swim after my long runs always makes me feel better! You are such an inspiration. Keep it up lady!!
