Longest workout in a while!! Longest trainer workout... ever.
Warmed up with 30Rock -- it must be "health week" at NBC... both the 30Rock episode and Parks and Rec have "healthy eating" themes... too bad they couldn't work that in to Community and The Office, too :P
Then did most of a 3 hr Spinervals workout. Felt good, didn't bonk -- ate 300 calories worth of gu-like product over the course of the workout, and 3- 1L water bottles... right on target. My chocolate Clif Shots are definitely past their prime, though. (Luna Moons were a new thing for me-- yummie!)
The workout consisted of several looong tempo sets (one of 30 min!!) with a couple of sprint intervals thrown in. Cadence was generally supposed to be high, and effort at about 80% of your LT. I could *not* get my cadence above 100 for any sort of duration. I was generally about 10 rpm below what "Coach Troy" said I should be doing. Need to work on that...
By 1:30 i could no longer keep my HR below my LT (178) if i was not "resting." That said, I returned to about 140-150 pretty quickly during the 1 min rests between reps and sets. I basically stopped thinking at about 2:20... I was aiming to finish the full 3 hours, but with 40 min left I thought I might either start to cry or pass out, so I stopped.
Stretched, and then immediately fixed (and rapidly consumed) dinner: leftover polenta mixed with an egg and fried in olive oil into a pattycake; garlic, kale, the last of a can of black beans, and the last of a can of tuna fried in olive oil (and a teeny bit of butter) and served over the polenta cake, with a very small handful of melted cheddar cheese on top. It's "clean out my fridge" week! Those two cans have lasted me through 4 meals now (woot).
Kind of cool to think I burned a day's worth of calories (according to my HRM) in one workout... that hasn't happened in a while, either!
Recovery tomorrow for about 1hr on the rollers, with my dear friend Hulu. Focusing on light gears with high cadence.
