After only running eight miles on Saturday and no miles yesterday (went to Lawrence and spent the day with the fam for Alex's KU graduation), I figured the creaky feeling in my left knee was just a little taperworm. I spent about fifteen minutes on the foam roller before I went out to run, and sure enough, the feeling disappeared the minute we hit the road. Maybe it was just all the sitting I did over the weekend and today at the office. I'm not good at sitting still, and apparently, it doesn't suit me.
The buttheads were a little confused that we turned back early for three miles, but I don't think either of them were complaining too much. Kessler kept falling behind and finding things to roll in, so I put her back on the leash. It made her want to run faster...so Recon and I had to follow suit. Went a little fast for recovery, but oh well.
I'm trying to figure out how long it's going to take me to get to Prospect Park from my friends' place in Astoria. It's looking like an hour...which means a 4 AM wakeup. Things like that make me wonder why a morning-hater like me ever got into running in the first place. Fortunately, she said I only change trains once and it's not complicated, which is a good thing...I'm not capable of coherent thought prior to 6 AM. (I don't count driving as an activity requiring "coherent thought." Maybe I should.)

I hate mornings too but love running so I guess it makes up for it. 4 AM is a bit early. DANG! You'll be fine though. I'm sure of it. I'm so excited for you!!

YIKES! 4 am??? That does not sound like fun. Good thing you won't have to think too much that early! Have a fantastic trip to NYC!

4 AM sounds brutal, but your adrenaline will get you through. Or maybe there will be a crazy on the train to get you moving! Good luck!

Are you going to take the subway alone that very early morning? I am sure you are going to have a blast at the Brooklyn Race.

oooh that is a little early but rest assured, i live in bk and i will still wake up around 4:30am to get the whole eating/coffee routine down. also definitely check out trip planner at mta.info, plug in when you want to arrive at 2/3 brooklyn museum stop from astoria and they will tell you when you need to leave.

Jumping on Linna's comment... add 30 minutes to whatever the MTA trip planner spits out. The subway on the weekends can be spotty. Also, the 4 and 5 trains are NOT running. Do you have someone picking up your race bib? There is no race day pick up and I'm going to pick mine up later today and i'd be happy to snag it for you. I live in Brooklyn, too, and the buzz is that this is going to be madness. They've added twice the number of racers this year so getting there earlier is recommended (by 6am)
