      Hopefully you are ok!

If the bike is more than 10 years old and you honestly think you will ride more than just around the block here and there, it's probably worth it to invest $5-600 in a brand new bike that you can put some miles on. Otherwise, you could get nickel and dimed away with this one, sinking in $60+ in new tires and tubes alone.

      So when are we riding?

Post a photo so we can see what you are dealing with. A good lube job on the chain and a once-over to make sure all the nuts and bolts are tight should get you going. Check the tires for dry-rot and make sure you ride with a cell in case you get stranded somewhere.

You say moutain bike, is there a suspension on the front, like a shock? Are the tires knobby? If you are intending on riding on the streets you'll want to change those out for "slicks" so that you can ride faster.
