alright 2010 Chicago Marathon 26.2 mi 04:13 09:39 pace

All things considered, I am pretty happy with how yesterday went, and I am delighted with my level of soreness, not too bad but enough to remind me that I totally killed my body the day before.

As everyone who ran will say, the heat and sun were certainly factors in our paces. I felt really great for the first half, which was great considering my worries about my stomach and knees. But it didn't take me long after that to realize how dehydrated I was.

The second half was just dreadful. I had to walk slowly through all of the water stop and I was pretty much just trying to make it from aid station to aid station. I never drank anywhere near that much water and gatorade over the summer, but couldn't get enough. What gives?

My brother joined me in Chinatown and ran with me until 25.5. He pointed out all of the buildings with very little significance to anyone but him, including the ugliest building in the south loop. He did a great job of taking my mind off how terrible I felt.

The hill at Roosevelt was about as bad as I thought it would be, but I managed to try to hype up the lackluster crowd in the stands at the end. I got my medal from Twitter friend Ed but then saw that the ribbon on it was all frayed and had to exchange it (sorry, Ed!).

My first marathon time was 5:46:55, which means I PRed by 1:34. Not bad. And this race has only made me want to run more... and faster. I'll be thinking about my new goals over the next few days, and then get to work!

Congratulations to all the finishers yesterday. It was a tough one!
