The answer to everyone's burning question: Yes, I did beat Al Roker. By a long shot. Thank goodness!

Today's half marathon started and ended in Grant Park and followed the typical through the city, south on Lake Shore, around the Museum campus course. It was humid as all heck and pretty sunny for the second half of the race. I ran with the fabulous Molly Conway until approx. mile 9. Until that point, my knee hurt but not so much that I needed to stop and slow down. We were hitting approx. a 9:20 pace every mile.

Then, it was like someone found a light switch on the back of my head and turned it off. I was just incredibly tired and the knee certainly wasn't helping. I ate a bunch of my sport Jelly Beans (which didn't seem to help, honestly), but then around mile 11 they gave out GU. I normally think GU is disgusting, but at that moment, it was the best thing I've ever eaten. That's pretty heavy considering my Foodie Wannabe status.

In any case, I finished those last three miles very slowly, but I finished, never walked, which was my original goal. And my knee, though not feeling awesome is much better than after past runs/races. When I finished I explained it as, "I feel so alive... in the worst possible way."

My real issue with this race (I believe) was dehydration and just not having enough gas in the tank. I'll work on that.

It was amazing seeing so many Twitter RunNerds friends and eating PF Chang's lettuce wraps with Sean at 9 am. Can't wait until we all see each other again.

But the best part of the day? 60-minute Swedish Massage at Spa Space. I love you, Spa Space.

I'm glad you beat Al, Elizabeth! Way to meet your goal of not walking, that's not always easy when things aren't clicking.
