I normally don't record my trips around town, but this one is notable as it's my FIRST RIDE OF THE SEASON! I think the bike got into a fight with the lawn mower over the winter as I had to bring it... read more

RUN
alright 3.98 mi 00:45 11:20 pace
I think it's officially the season of long Sunday runs & listening to Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me, yay! Also, freezer pops are the best recovery snack!

RUN
good 2.67 mi 00:28 10:31 pace
Best thing I saw tonight: guy on a skateboard with an empty growler [presumably heading to the brewery in town].

RUN
good River Bank Run 5 km 00:29 09:15 pace
I was supposed to do the 25k, but - thanks to the broken toe incident - did only the 5k. Still happy to participate & I don't feel too bad about my performance, either.

RUN
2.2 mi 00:24 10:40 pace
No watch, no music. Trying to be gentle with myself.
-
RUN
good 2.87 mi 00:29 10:15 pace
I'm ready to be back in shape! Despite feeling thick & slow, I went for 3 instead of the planned 2 & my toe hardly hurt at all!

After breaking down & seeing a specialist, I know this much: I bent my left big toe at least 90 degrees to the left, stretched/ripped many tendons, pulled away a bone fragment. Too much scar t... read more

It's a big bummer, but you don't hang around upside down without assuming risks like this. Disappointing, but I'm hoping to be back soon - I'm too stubborn to not. :)

Ah Elizabeth I'm really sorry to hear this. I know you injured your foot but did you reinsure it again or was it this bad from before? We need To get you in a pool somehow.

This is from before - I went back to the dr since it wasn't healing very quickly. And yes, a pool would be lovely, but gym memberships are $$$. :( Ah well, I'll be back at it soon.

Foot update: Still black & blue, still hurts. Buddy-taped it all week, can't walk if I don't. Haven't worked out for a week. Feel discouraged. End of update.

It's not easy but don't let the injury get your spirits down. Everyone doing sports has to deal with injury. So now the trick is to discover what to do with your extra time that was for workouts. Maybe use some upper body circuit machines, core and back exercises? Or catch up on things totally away from exercise.

Flyhouse 01:30
Even with a fractured toe, it was awesome.
Plus, due to having one car/Joel having a job interview logistics, he came & watched. Now he thinks I'm really cool.-
I don't know whom Joel is but I agree with him! (Who, Whom???)

Bummer.
Doctor called & my toe does have a small fracture. Rar. I have an 8-mile relay leg in 4 weeks & a 15 mile race in 3 months.
My plan: lots of taping, RICE-ing, cycling for cardio &a... read more-
Ah sorry to hear that. I think all the things you mentioned the the best you can do. I'd keep up the cardio stuff best you can and it looks like the bike on that. Maybe elliptical won't bother it.

If you have the right polar it might work on the machine. I have a garmin and just put my watch on the bar of the bike.

It was so incredible. I'm disappointed we didn't get to do the full distance, but it was SUCH a blast anyway. You should definitely try to get out there next year.
