blah Anotomy of a Failure-to complete 9 mi 01:32 10:15 pace

Mental attitude had a lot to do with why I did not complete the last 4 miles of this run.

I wanted to do this run outside and I prepared the night before, laying out warm clothes. When I got up and drove my son to work at 8:30a, I realized how windy and raw it was and couldnt' face it. Whether it would have made a difference (outside or inside) in my quit later on, I don't know. It WAS pretty crappy out and the weather didn't get much better later either. In fact, the rain picked up.

I sent some emails out after I got home from the droppoff and that got me into a chain last lasted for an hour. That rationalized my pushing the run back to the afternoon. Then I realized at 1130a that I had missed an 11a appt because it was in my book as a 12:15. (can't even blame the time change.)

I had everything I needed on the treadmill-powerade, GU (2) at the hour mark, endurolytes.

At the 1:20 mark though, It started going batty. alll I could think about was getting off that thing. I walked for a bit and then started up again. I managed another mile, enought to get to 9 miles. My hips were burning. My legs and lungs were stressed but ok. My mind was defeated. It was NOT in the right place.

I really wanted to come back home having belted out 13 on the treadmill. Alas, it will have to be a future run.

I'm not going to dwell on it too long. I have a race on Sunday and I'm sure that will be fun. Better weather is coming this week. I'm going to sulk tonight then tomorrow get after again.

Ugh. Mondays.

The next one will be better. As you said, don't dwell on it. Learn from it, and move on.

sometimes quitting because your head isn't in it is a good thing. Every time I have pushed through a situation like that, it never got any better. And besides, 9 miles is still a heck of a run!

Everybody has a bad run occasionally. Just shake it off, and don't let it become a habit.

Totally understand but still 9 miles on the treadmill is a lot. Good for you at least for trying. Imagine how you would have felt if you never tried. Enjoy the beautiful day we're supposed to have tomorrow.

Chris - you said it you'll have ups and downs. You got a good 9 miles in - that is worth something. Have a good race this coming weekend.
