Hi Shira-Yaktrax i think are very useful and fun to use especially if you're in slippery base snow. Where it gets dicey is when you're going from snow to asphalt back and forth a lot. You have to experiment with them. i've had good runs and bad. I don't run regularly with a group though I joined some Fleet Feeters this past weekend. Where do you guys train? Rail Trails?

Shira-I would say that with any equipment, there is some risk of slippage. The Yaktrax are great, but not infallible. If you are running on soft wet snow for example, Snow will "fill in the the gaps" around the spiral wires on the bottom on your feet, as well as stick to the bottom of your feet, creating a smooth surface on the bottom of your foot. When snow is that heavier like that, switch to Microspikes by Kahtoola. Google it. They're like crampons for runners.

when i run where there's potential for black ice, i am always mindful to be more midfoot strike as well. If you're a heel striker, as i have been in the past, you will slip because your center of gravity is off. good luck!
