If I were to finalize details today, we'd end up with just the 5k and 10k courses this year. We're talking about getting a couple people out there to do the 10k for opinions and an accurate garmin map...but after underestimating it even though I went in knowing it would be tough, I'm not sure I can pull the trigger on having the half go around this twice without seeing a bunch of runners do this loop once. I've got a bunch of pictures on FB. Going to be a great place for pictures and awesome views.

Oh, and on a side note...I bailed on doing the full actual course - dropped down to normal ground to skip about a mile worth of dunes. Took about 15 sit breaks on the tough section I did (less than a mile) and even crawled some of if. :) I expect this to be our first race where we have a noticeable number of dnf's. It is going to be one of the toughest 10k's in existence. The 5k will only hit some smaller dunes, nothing like the 10k.

Great plan Wayne. From a lot of reading I have done on covering distance, you may want to experiment with walking 20 minutes, jogging 2 minutes. That way you give your walking muscles a break and work a different set of muscles.

Yeah that's probably a PR for 4+ miles as far as the pace goes. Also got to run a 5k last year that was just barely 2 miles. Ironically, that one was barely faster than this one...although I had our 3 oldest kids with us including the one that will ask when we can go home 2 minutes after getting anywhere that doesn't have video games. Maybe I'll have to find a well established 5k around here so I can get an official 5k time...or I can just bump up to the 10k's I suppose.

Super 5K Wayne! Gotta love it when you feel the improvement. I weaned myself off of support shoes and can't stand them now. I have a pair with only 100 miles that I can't get myself to wear. Not to say that I don't have a few more pair with <100 miles. Always looking for the perfect pair. And you never know until you try. ;)

Thanks everyone. Will be wearing the knee supports and taking ibuprofin the next couple runs to hopefully baby the IT bands along. Real close to the half way point of my weight loss goal so have to balance moving forward with avoiding serious injury.

LOL, could imagine having your sweat create a frozen barrier around your head wouldn't feel great.
