good Gateshead - roads and trails 9.5 mi 01:21 08:33 pace

Not much time for running this week so its another day of short(ish) fast(ish) rolling hills - after work this time.

    elevation 862'

  2. RUN
good gateshead hills n trails 12.02 mi 01:49 09:05 pace

really enjoyed todays run, loving adding a little bit of trail along side the roads, and without the backpack even this quite hilly route seemed a breeze.

The cotswolds is entirely on roads Laura, but the Lakeland 100 is 105 miles on trails around the Lake District somewhere around 10,000 feet of climbing i think, with a 40 hour time limit. I timed out 2 years ago running with a friend as she wasn't well, but the organisers let me restart at the half way point - i managed to get 87 miles in. The first night was tough, my friend had dropped out, i was on my own in the dark 2 hours behind the 2nd last runner with a near impossible task of make the cut off.

  4. RUN
good run around gateshead 10.01 mi 01:45 10:31 pace

Still a bit slower after a killer couple of days, but added a few hills and got another 10 miles in on this sunny morning, getting me to 4000 miles logged on my nike+ app (in about 3 years) ;)

  5. RUN
    good RUN 05/08/13 06:33 PM 7.18 mi 01:19 10:59 pace

Really found it hard to motivate myself and get out, but once i got my trainers on and got out the door it wasn't a bad run.

  6. RUN
good Run Home 11.77 mi 02:28 12:33 pace

Following a slow run into the office, this was an even slower run home, least the sun was shining and i could work on my tan while i was doing it!

  7. RUN
good RUN into the office 11.73 mi 02:16 11:32 pace

A slow recovery run into the office following the 35 mile run on monday.

  8. RUN
good 50k along the river 33.08 mi 06:18 11:26 pace

Look the metro to the coast and ran the 33 miles back along the river, seeing how many times i could cross the Tyne on the way. 13 - 1 ferry crossing, 1 pedestrian tunnel, and 11 bridges.

Its not as scary as it looks, though the stairs at either end are a daunting as the escalators aren't working.

Nice 14 miler David, great pace for the distance, I have a question for you, what's a good Ultra race for a beginner to run?, I had been considering the GO33 in November

A good question James - i kind of jumped in with both feet and went from marathons to the Lakeland 100/50 after doing a 100 mile multiday event in india where i ran 20 miles a day for 5 day. There are runs like the Wall which is 70 miles with an option to do it as 2 x 35 mile days. It also depends on whether you prefer to run on trails or roads, both the hardmoors and lakeland series now include marathons which are all on trail which are a nice intro before either hardmoors 55 or lakeland 50 ultras.

Thanks David, I had considered doing the Montane Ultra Trail 26 series those look like they could be fun, I will be doing a few more trail half marathons later this year but I will see how I fair with the Edinburgh Marathon in 3 weeks first before committing.

i've done edinburgh a few times its a really nice race, and a bit faster now you don't need to run back up the hill to finish in the city centre. A trail marathon would definitely be a good next step before going ultra, and the montane events are really well organised.

thanks, i'm sort of spoilt when it comes to places to run, i work in the town centre so have lots of urban runs there, but i live about 12 miles out of town so i get to run in the countryside when i run from home ;)
