Felt strong despite the right knee area muscle pain. Pushed through it. Not sure that was a good idea... It's quite sore now.

Aye, don't think it's a great idea to push through pain in the joints. I did that often during my 1st year running and I count myself lucky that I didn't leave much permanent damage to my knees. Not sure if I told you this before, but the main reason why I switched to barefoot running was because of my 1st marathon. Was running very well up till the 35km mark then came this bad pain in my left knee that reduced me to a walk/jog till the finish. Hobbled for 6 weeks after the race. Not pretty.

Reading: "Weighing the Evidence on Exercise"
Some interesting info here

First completely barefoot run! Felt better than expected. Not much pain or jarring which I was worried about.

Congrats on this first step! Hope this will mean many more painless and fun runs to come. :-)

The last month I've been getting pain in my right lower Vastus Lateralis, upper Peroneus Longus & Plantaris muscles... or in that area anyway based on my novice reading of leg anatomy.

I sound like a broken record, but barefoot running works. Try it. Have you managed to read "Born To Run" yet?

Woohoo! It'll be so fun. :-D More unsolicited advice: 0) Start with smooth concrete. 1) Walk for 500m, then run. Don't run too much in the beginning, maybe 1-2km? 2) Relax! Don't tense your muscles or focus too hard on how your feet is landing. Relax! Just let things happen. Relax! 3) If you feel a slight pain on your soles, that's normal, continue. Pain anywhere else isn't normal. 4) Don't go running with music. Barefoot running is a completely different experience and you'll need the focus.

Felt good which is surprising given all the alcohol I consumed on the weekend :P
I did 4 chin-ups and 35 crunches on my way around the track. My upper body strength needs lots of work.
Wow, long run after not doing it for so long. My upper body strength needs a lot more work too. I can only manage one pull-up a week ago and have gotten it increased to two. To think that I managed 11 just last year! Amazing what laziness and a fat belly can do.

We'll get there! What work do you do for upper body? I'm not much of a gym guy so rely on pushups, crunches and chinups/pullups at the moment.

Pull-ups, for getting through the annual armed forces fitness test, holding my body in the plank position for the abs and push ups for vanity. ;-) I don't like gyms too, and just working with our body weight got us really far in the Army, so I know it works!

Great start! I'm sure you'll get back into the zone with just a few runs.

Felt great. Had to push through a but of leg pain but I should have done another 2K for a half marathon distance! Didn't think of that at the time! :P
If your calf is hurting from 1km, it's telling you that it's being overused. I had this same problem when I focused too much on landing on the forefoot and not letting my heels touch. The calf strain went away when I allowed my heels to touch lightly instead.

You got it. I was focusing on my fore and mid too much! Thanks.
