Well, I'm finally entering this in 4 days later. I did make it 8 miles Sunday, but it was not my most enjoyable run. I'm sure part of it was that I was just finishing up antibiotics for a sinus infection, but that wasn't all. Last week I started having trouble with blisters under my toenails again (had probs with that a few years back). In addition, after Sunday's run I had a huge blister on the side of another toe. I was limping all day Monday. I have been working up to longer runs in preparation for the 1/2 marathon on 5/1. After thinking it over for several days, I'm sorry to say that I just don't think I am up for it. I do fine at about 5 or 6 miles, but past that I think it is just a little much for me.
I absolutely love running. I have been running for 28 years. I love how I can get out of a bad mood by going for a 5 mile run and feeling so much better mentally. Before this year I have only done 2 organized runs, and that was Al's Run back in the late 1980's. I have never really wanted to do a marathon, but the 1/2 I thought I could handle. I don't have problems with my lung capacity or my muscles being able to handle it, I think it is just all the pounding as my feet hit the ground. Most of the year I do my running on the crushed gravel/dirt trail in Sussex Village Park, since it is a softer surface than concrete or asphalt. Maybe I'm just so used to running on a softer surface. I'm just trying to listen to my body and right now it is telling me that it LOVES 5K runs with all my Fit Milwaukee buddies and it does NOT like running more than about 6 or 7 miles. This was a really difficult thing for me to admit because I really thought I was up for it. I guess I just really run because I love to run, and when I'm not loving it anymore, well then I have to change something.
