Shin splints suck. Do you have ACE bandages and ice packs? The whole Rest Ice Compression Elevation thing does help. Ultimately I think shin splints are an unfortunate, mandatory part of the process. Like the smell of bodyglide. Blech.

Since I run at work, when I get done I kick my feet up on my computer tower under my desk and put baggies of ice on my shins. So I have the rest, ice, and elevation thing down. I wonder if we have Ace bandages around here in a first aid kit. Thanks John!

With shin issues, take it slow! I've been off of running since the first week of December because of a shin splint. Stretch and Ice. Stretch and Ice. And be patient!

YAY!! Remember to stretch before and especially after a run.

It's amazing what we can push through (especially pushing kids out!) I know exactly what you mean by frontloading the water before a run. I had to do it today too. It was "nice" enough for me to get outside.

I think stretching was my problem a couple weeks ago when I had to cut short a run, so I have made sure to stretch. Plus, I have weak hips and John (HellaSound) gave me some tips and a link to a physical therapy page detailing some hip strengthening exercises. Those are helping too. I think the pain is mostly because I'm new, out of shape, and need to just push through.
