Shin splints suck. Do you have ACE bandages and ice packs? The whole Rest Ice Compression Elevation thing does help. Ultimately I think shin splints are an unfortunate, mandatory part of the process. Like the smell of bodyglide. Blech.

Since I run at work, when I get done I kick my feet up on my computer tower under my desk and put baggies of ice on my shins. So I have the rest, ice, and elevation thing down. I wonder if we have Ace bandages around here in a first aid kit. Thanks John!

great Elliptical 2.14 mi 00:27 12:37 pace
I decided to try the elliptical instead of treadmill for the lower impact of it. My shins feel great, I was able to go for longer, and my only complaint has to do with my own gangliness on the mac... read more

Due to my shin issues, I only went a mile today and I don't have pain. I have muscle soreness and I can tell I've worked my legs pretty good, but I'm not hurting. I'm vastly encouraged by this. ... read more

Planning to get on the dreadmill in a few minutes. Here's to hoping that the shin issue is not going to rear its ugly head.

"dreadmill" is right! I feel like a gerbil sometimes, but considering the alternative of -temps, I'll deal with it!Good luck!

Yeah! You CAN do it! Sounds like your motivation is there - hopefully a change in shoes/PT can make your body start cooperating! Is it any better when you're not on a treadmill?

alright treadmill ho hum 1.56 mi 00:25 16:01 pace

YAY!! Remember to stretch before and especially after a run.
It's amazing what we can push through (especially pushing kids out!) I know exactly what you mean by frontloading the water before a run. I had to do it today too. It was "nice" enough for me to get outside.

I think stretching was my problem a couple weeks ago when I had to cut short a run, so I have made sure to stretch. Plus, I have weak hips and John (HellaSound) gave me some tips and a link to a physical therapy page detailing some hip strengthening exercises. Those are helping too. I think the pain is mostly because I'm new, out of shape, and need to just push through.
