Today was just hard. Back to the treadmill after the elliptical the last few workouts and my calves are letting me know they do not like the higher impact. But I pushed. I wanted to quit after ten minutes, but I told myself no, not until I'd run doubl... read more

Way to hang in there; some days the body just doesn't want to cooperate with the plan.

  2. great 2.05 mi / 00:26

Did the elliptical again to continue babying my shins and I feel great. I changed up the End is Near Zombie Fleeing Badass Running Test to go for distance rather than miles. I ran a half mile straight FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER! It took me 5min33sec. N... read more

Shin splints suck. Do you have ACE bandages and ice packs? The whole Rest Ice Compression Elevation thing does help. Ultimately I think shin splints are an unfortunate, mandatory part of the process. Like the smell of bodyglide. Blech.

Since I run at work, when I get done I kick my feet up on my computer tower under my desk and put baggies of ice on my shins. So I have the rest, ice, and elevation thing down. I wonder if we have Ace bandages around here in a first aid kit. Thanks John!

  3. greatElliptical 2.14 mi / 00:27

I decided to try the elliptical instead of treadmill for the lower impact of it. My shins feel great, I was able to go for longer, and my only complaint has to do with my own gangliness on the machine. My stride could be smoother. Now, I won't repla... read more

Due to my shin issues, I only went a mile today and I don't have pain. I have muscle soreness and I can tell I've worked my legs pretty good, but I'm not hurting. I'm vastly encouraged by this. I didn't do my End Is Near Zombie Fleeing Badass Timing... read more

  5. Shin problems continue to abound. Have had 2 weeks off, though tried a treadmill run yesterday & failed. Maybe on Monday I'll be ready again. :(

With shin issues, take it slow! I've been off of running since the first week of December because of a shin splint. Stretch and Ice. Stretch and Ice. And be patient!

W3D1 C25K and it went okay. My legs are still bothering me, but I'm trying to keep it up so they get used to the exertion. Got my HR department to change the no water on machines rule so I kept well hydrated today and that helped a bunch. I am still... read more

  7. Planning to get on the dreadmill in a few minutes. Here's to hoping that the shin issue is not going to rear its ugly head.

"dreadmill" is right! I feel like a gerbil sometimes, but considering the alternative of -temps, I'll deal with it!Good luck!

I start out walking back to the workout facility at my workplace listening to Chariots of Fire. It makes me feel all good and inspired and it's easier to get on the boring old treadmill. I've been nursing some calf pain on my right leg so I took extr... read more

      GREAT JOB on the running!!!

Yes!! Do a gait analysis. A good pair of shoes will be worth the investment.

Yeah! You CAN do it! Sounds like your motivation is there - hopefully a change in shoes/PT can make your body start cooperating! Is it any better when you're not on a treadmill?
