Don't recommend doing this after a long week at work, but it was sure fun spending the day stuffing my face with food and drink! That's why, when I was finally done, all I wanted was a side salad :P Was hoping to get in a 10k to complete the OW portion of the women's Olympics swimming schedule, but realistically, only had time for 8-9k. Did a series of 1500s + a "feed" and 100 easy kick on 2:30-ish in between each round. Splits are all over the place because of the crazy lane situation. Surprised at the amount of watered down coconut water I went through -- roughly a bottle and a half (36 oz.). Took two swigs of watered down gel and felt like it never kicked in. Forgot BodyGlide and am now sporting a sweet suit hickey on the right-hand side of my neck!
- Only 3 people in the lane? Yes! Off to a great start! [7:43, 7:39, 7:35]
- Peaceful lane turned into a free-for-all with 9 people doing 9 different workouts. What. A. Mess. Having to leapfrog multiple people every lap is taking up too much energy! Was so irritated and thought about calling it quits, but reminded myself that anything could happen on race day and decided to suck it up. [7:30, 7:24, 7:31]
- Down to 5 people. Ooh, who is this hottie with the skimpy, white, butt-crack speedo?!! He seemed to be doing a similar workout at a slightly faster pace, so I let him pass when I got a right calf cramp and tried to stay about 10 seconds behind him. [7:33, 7:31, 7:33]
- Speedy speedo guy and someone else got out and we were down to 3 people. Body wasted no time in letting me know that it was a bad idea trying to keep up with that guy. Then a dude with board shorts and scuba fins got in. So not fun swimming behind him with all of that turbulence, but didn't have the energy to pass him. Luckily, he saw me and stopped at the wall. Thanks! Contemplated getting out after this round. It was bad. [7:36, 7:43, 7:48]
- Down to 2 people, but the other guy always seemed to appear right in front of me. He actually took off right as I was starting my last 100. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!! Swam with a left toe-to-arch cramp with tightness on the top of foot, too. Weird. Splits don't reflect the second wind I thought I was getting. [7:54, 7:58, 7:51]
