good Long run 10 mi 01:13 07:20 pace

Probably ranks as one of my top 10 most miserable runs ever. 34 degrees, gusting winds, and steady heavy rain with the occasional ice pellet thrown in for good measure. Despite that discomfort, the actual run felt good. Felt loose, fresh, good energy and easy clip from start to finish. By my count that's 331 miles for the year so far, 243 for the month of Feb. Looks like this also pushed me into the 1K mile club on DailyMile.

You've got some kind of dedication! Cold? Okay. Winds? Well, if I have too. Rain? Hmmmm...maybe. Ice pellets? No thanks! I'd stay in for the day.

What I wouldn't give for 34 degrees right about now! Good on you for toughing it out, though. :)

Yeh Jason, I know... It's all relative I suppose. I'll usually wear shorts still, even in 34 degrees, but the wind/rain changed that equation for today. Running in wind/wet at any temp is never great in my book. Today was particularly sucky. Alan, the weather is allegedly turning to snow tomorrow, so I didn't know if I'd get in a run tomorrow at all.

Now you know what its like to run outside up here in MN. That is why I wimp out and hit the treadmill.

One technical clothing manufactuer likes to say "There is no bad weather. Just bad gear." On some rare days, I like to say back, "No. You're wrong. You effing effers are wrong. Eff you." Then another ice pellet hits your face. Repeat as necessary.

No Chip... Quite honestly I have NO IDEA what it's like to run outside in MN in winter... That is a magnitude more of ass-freezing than what I have here. Then again, I can also assure you there is no way you have any idea what it's like to run here in August... I've been in MN in August, and I'd take your August over my August 100 times out of 100... ;-)

I have to say living in Florida also....I would love getting those colder days to run. I would take ice pellets over our 100 degrees 100 % humidity! I for one don't like it when it's over 70, so you know I spend most of my summers running in the dark of morning! Before the sun comes out.

Kitzzy & Constantine, I call it commitment. ;-)

When we line up to race, rarely is it a perfect 65 degree, sunny, low humidity day. The fact that I can go on a 34 degree icy day, IMHO, gives me a race day advantage over the folks who chose to stay inside. I'm not saying I enjoy a day like that, or that it's fun... But I'm not going to use it as an excuse for not going.

Snow or ice? That's a different matter. I'd rather not fall and break my collar bone. But as long as conditions aren't a threa

I totally agree with not using conditions as an excuse to not run! There's only one thing that keeps me off the road and that's when we get the smoke from fires. It gets so thick that it's not healthy to head out of doors. The one time I did I came home covered in black soot.

It is all relative. I live in Canada and run in it all, a normal day is around -10 to -15 so we don't hit the treadmill unless it is minus 30! I run in many layers and a balaclava and OMG - how empowering! You MUST feel like a ROCK STAR though!!! :)
