None really. Would like to still be running when I'm 60+.
Chaz Hinkle question of the day: ...
Dailymile makes it easy to keep track of your workouts. Map your routes and share with a community of active people.
Question of the day: Describe your first Marathon.... How did it go? What did you like about it, what did you hate about it? Did you ever hit the wall? Would you do it again, why?Ack! It was Grandmas Marathon... I think the 1996 edition.. Might have been 98. No, it did NOT go well...First off, I thought I was a lot faster than I really was. I told everyone I was shooting for 3.10 when in fact I thought I could run right at 3-flat... And the reality was I had NO IDEA for what I could really run. Secondly, while I ran all the training mileage that was required of me, I kinda gave short shrift to the fast stuff and intervals. I made a LOT of rookie mistakes, more than I can even go into here, but those were the big ones.On race day, I went out a hair slower than 3 hour pace... Felt great through about 10 or 11 miles... Figured I had this one in the bag... But by 12 I was starting to tire and by 14 I started walking... I had ALREADY hit the wall. It was a LOOOOOOOONG day and I walked most of those last 10 miles. Ended up running 3.33 as I recall.Would I do it again?... Sure. It was a learning experience. I didn't run another marathon until 2000, but I used the lessons learned in Duluth and ran a 2.59.How about you?

While it's unfortunate that you had that experience, know that it helps me not make the same mistakes for my first one in October :D

Dude, you are the most impressive guy I know. You walked the last 10 miles and still ran a 3,33, I was impressed before but now... dang.

Yes good question. My first marathon was Vermont City, in Burlington, VT. It wasn't that terrible except that I really hit the wall at 20 miles and was swearing "never again" with every step. At the finish I realized I'd missed the Boston qualifying time (for 45 year old) by 30 seconds and was kicking myself for not digging in a little more in the last mile.
