alright Marathon Long Training Run 3 20 mi 03:44 11:12 pace

Very tough run, I think mostly because of the strong sun and warm temps. This long run takes me over the Manhattan Bridge (100 years young today!), then through Brooklyn and Queens up to the RFK Bridge, then down 1st Ave back home. Felt fine in the early miles, but seemed like I was constantly in the sun. I always find running in the sun much harder. Think maybe I took on too much water and Gatorade and just felt like I hit a wall at 14-15 miles or so. Last 5 miles on 1st Ave was very hard. Only had 1 Gu today, and 2nd might have been very helpful at the end.

I'm still very happy, even though my time was significantly slower than the other 2 times I've done this route in the past. But, both of those previous runs were in optimal conditions. Part of the training process is getting through the conditions that are tough for you. If marathon Sunday is sunny and warm, I'll be ready for it!

Next up is Staten Island Half next Sunday.

No problems with the shin today. Could feel tiny bit of tightness in beginning but really not a problem. Shin gets
better on uphills and worse on downhills, so Manhattan Bridge in mile 2 helped to loosen it up. Danger zone is first 3 miles. Once get past 3 miles then never really a problem.

I noticed the sun was strong. It can be a factor. I tend to think running is easier when its overcast than on sunny day. You did a phenomenal job dude !!!
