This was the first chance I had to get a good ride in after Sunday's mtb race and boy was it cherished! My time this week has been consumed between my hour commute, my 11 hour work day, my city council meetings and chairing the city budget committee and being a father and husband. Whew!!
I have been struggling to drag myself out of bed at zero dark thirty for a ride and have been fretting over my lack of miles. I told myself today at work that I was leaving early to get my ride in. That's precisely what I did.
I rode Kingston-Lyons road up and up over to Lyons. This is approximately 7 miles of climbing and I just spun my way to the top. Mr. Canine decided to play with me at mile 5 until I turned into him and he quickly hightailed it home when instructed to do so. The views from the top of the climb were epic today and I just took it all in as the stress melted into the vista. Refreshing! Of course once the climb was over it was time to really have some fun. A mile descent with a top speed of 45mph today! A little sketch, but it really got the adrenaline pumping! Cruising into Lyons I took it easy for the second half of the ride. Weather was cool almost to the point of being mistaken for autumn but that's Oregon!
Just a great post work hectic week ride! Much relieved!

Great job getting out there for a ride. Tough week going for sure!! It sounds like the ride was worth it with the views you described. And what a great down hill glide!! I love that!! Hopefully your work life will slow down to more of a normal pace soon.

Great climbing and a fast pace just the same! There seems to be a dog lurking in every cyclists life. Glad you taught him a thing or two.

Like an former airline pilot friend used to like saying in front of his wife: What goes up, must come down. But he certainly did not have as much fun coming down as we bikers. Wow....45. that kind of decent truly gets the adrenaline flowing and helps ease the stress of all of the things pulling for your attention.

That's a great write-up, Brian. My husband works for a town government and has had council and budget meetings of late and I know they can take a toll on him so I have uber respect for what it is you're writing about. Glad you were able to lay down the law with yourself and get out for a ride - helps keep everything in perspective, methinks.
