More gear testing, this time with the new pack and a sampling of contents. Good thing this race is flat; going up and down hills with the extra few pounds on my back was tougher than I expected.

Packs are interesting beasts. I trained with one intending to use it, and ended up dropping it after the first loop. What are you hoping to use it for?

Carrying food and a change of shoes. Aid stations are 25 miles apart (unmanned water midway between each). Course goes from gravel to paved around mile 100 so I'm taking my road shoes to change into. No chance of ditching it!

Um, yeah, I'd say that means you're carrying a pack! I think I would've kept mine yesterday had the aid stations not been so close (furthest was 4.4 miles) and had I not had the extra weight of the mud already bogging me down. I can't imagine, yet, the mostly self supported runs. Seeing aid stations was like heavens opening and angels singing.
