great Buckeye Trail, S. Woodland to Aurora Rd x2 16.29 mi 02:46 10:12 pace

S. Woodland at top of Polo Field south along Chagrin River to Miles Rd then west along Hawthorn Parkway to Aurora Rd and back. Trails all the way except a mile or two where the trail converged to the bike path. My longest trail run yet, and very easy effort. Felt like I could have gone another hour at the end as my heart rate stayed around 160 for the entire time.

Was 6-7 degrees colder than the weather said it would be! It said it'd be no colder than 33 at finish but it was 33 when I started and 27 when I finished. Fortunately I brought a pair of gloves and hat in my bag just in case, and a quarter mile into the run I ran back and grabbed them. The snow had melted in my yard today but there was at least a solid inch on the ground between 91 and 422. The foot bridge by Miles was hard ice too. The trails (and sections of bridle trail on soggy grass) were very sloshy and muddy today.

Surprised how fast this was for this route, and at a very easy effort too. Probably because there was relatively little climbing. 89 cadence is way high for trails too. No stops other than 2 minutes to tie a shoe and waiting for cars to cross 91. No walking either. Saw a raccoon and some type of hopping creature that I assumed was a frog. The worst part of the run was trying to get my shoes off at the end as the double knotted laces were a large block of solid ice. Took me five minutes to finally get them off and it seemed like an eternity as my shoes and socks were both very wet and muddy. Best I've felt after any run >14 miles. (853 ft uphill, 853 ft downhill)
