A DIFFICULT FIRST

I have never done this before.

I am currently sitting in Santa Monica. It's the night before the Los Angeles Marathon, the reason I came down here. I was going to run, but have decided against it. The choice is not without disappointment.

A tough decision for certain, Michael. I salute your spirit for running, in the past and again in the future, and commend you for staying around and cheering others at their finish.

I totally respect your decision and reading your blog, I realized that sometimes, specially in difficult times, a person is just not in the right mood or mind to do some things in life. If the mind is not ok, the body is definitely not in a good shape to accomplish a certain physical task. Sorry to hear about your job.

Sounds like a good but painful decision. It would be much worse to realize that in the middle of the race.

you know when you make the right call, and I think you've done it. Enjoy the run you do go on, and look for the next event that feels right to you.

I agree with Barb. I lost my job last year (second time in three years) and the toll it takes can only be understood by the unemployed.

Sounds like you've got a lot going on in your life right now. I think you made the right decision on not running. You are probably the most experienced marathon runner on DM with many marathons under your belt. YOU know that it takes an incredible amount of mental toughness to get through the race. Your mental toughness is being used on something more important right now. Good luck on your job search. Keep us posted.
