great First run in my Bedrock Sandals 2.04 mi 00:26 12:48 pace

My Earthquake Sandals from Bedrock Sandals arrived today! I couldn't wait to take them out for a run. Basically they are a modernized take on the classic Huarache. The fit was comfortable with the soft wide straps and the heel strap didn't slip at all during the run.

I stuck to my regular short route that I run in my VFF's usually. The weather was cold enough my little toes started to get a little numb but I didn't mind. It felt so good having the cool air on my feet.

I took advantage of the adrenaline and included a few hills I've been avoiding lately. I took them with no trouble at all.

I used the IT band strap on my left leg. I don't know if it was in spite of or because of that but I had no IT band pain during the run.

At one point during the run I slipped my Bedrocks off for a block of bare foot running too. I like how easy it is to do that with the sandals. It was an interesting sensation. It was like running on sand paper. I could tell when I was pushing off instead of lifting off. I'm glad to say it was only a couple strides.

Having problems with my comment, I'm going to split it in two....

You're funny, I was too much of a baby in the cold and wanted a thicker sole than the KSO's provided, that's why I went to Speeds!! LOL Keep us updated on how you like them.

I totally think the lack of IT band pain could be a result of the new shoes. I've been struggling with ankle pain. When I switched to the Speeds the ankle pain remained, but was different. I didn't think two different styles of VFF's would cause a difference. On one of my runs I went barefoot and haven't had ankle pains at all since then and I am continuing to wear my speeds.

Thanks all. Meg, I another factor that could be improving my IT band issues is my new focus on core strengthening. All the workouts I do with Fit in Six have a strong emphasis on core strength. Not only can this strengthen my abductors and adductors which will help with the IT band issues, but the core strength also helps maintain better form when running. I did also notice a little more muscle soreness reminiscent of my first days run in my VFFs. This does point to a slight form change as well.
