Not what I was hoping for today in my time trial, but it lets me know where I'm at in my running fitness. Now I know where I'm starting this next cycle of marathon training.

Well, like you said at least you know. What was the time on your last one and when was it? And funny I was thinking that it might be time for me to do another one myself. My first and only one was in January. But that was not fun at all. Ugh, just thinking about it I may have talked myself out of it...

Way to check in with your pace.... but I'm impressed with the pace :)

Marcie - last time time was around 6:20. So, that's the biggest basis for disappointment. But it's warmer, I ran this one in the rain. Didn't get enough sleep last night. There's a million factors that could have affected the result. I'm OK with it. Just gotta do the work to get where I want to be.

Kelsie - Thanks, I do realize that's a fast pace for many. So I'm grateful to be even that quick.

It's an ongoing debate, no doubt. I think there's room for both styles of training. What I personally know is that at my highest volume, averaging 40-50 miles/week, I was still slower at distances from 5K to Ultramarathons than 3 different friends of mine who all ran 7-10 miles/month and used CrossFit as their primary workout. Right now I'm following a customized plan for me. It's not strict CFE, but it follows their methodologies.

Do they give prescriptions for the strength stuff or do you just have to set your own goals there?

      19 days ago Like

    • Brian S.

They'll tell us something like "we're not looking for your to PR on this lift." or sometimes the opposite depending on the purpose of the work. But they don't prescribe actual weights. Everyone is at a different point on any given day. You have to decide what you're capable of that day.
