On Sunday, my wife pointed out to me that I had a very large bruse on the bottom of my left foot from the half marathon on Saturday. Because of that, I decided to put off running until the soreness went away in that foot, which didn't happen until today, and man is it good to get a run in. Sadly, this is also my first real exercise since Saturday, too. I really need to get my act together there and stop dropping off... it's just hard with so many other things happening. :-/

Also, I think I need new trail shoes: they were bothering me during the run, and the brused foot just proves it. Looks like I've worn out my current pair. (I guess I shouldn't be surprised, they have like 350 miles on them. ;-)

Any idea what shoe you're going to? I stocked up on MT101's but they're almost impossible to get now in common sizes. The MT110 is a bit of a different shoe, but you might like it.

@Dan: Not sure yet, but I am leaning strongly towards the MT110s. I need to try them on again, since last time I tried them on, I had been wearing Minimus mostly, and they felt extra stiff, but then I got back into my MT101s, and realized that they're pretty stiff compared to the Minimus. I haven't found any other shoe that fits my feet as well as New Balance trail shoes so far. Have you tried anything that you found similar in fit to thr MT101s?

I haven't tried on a lot of shoes, but assuming you like the roominess of the MT101's, you might want to check out Altra Instinct. Some others to check out are the Brooks PrueGrit, Merrell Mix Master 2, or if you don't mind slightly heavier, a lot of people like the Saucony Peregrine 2's -- Saucony's more minimal shoe, the Kinvara TR is really narrow, so that probably won't do.

I should check out the Instinct. I think I tried on the PureGrit and didn't like the fit. I haven't tried the Mix Master, but since the heel in the Trail Glove is too narrow for my foot, I'm not optimistic about that shoe. I tried on the Kinvara Road back in the day, and it was definitely more narrow than I like.

Thanks for the suggestions, now I just need to get to the store to check them out. :-)

Don't be afraid to try on a half size larger. I wear a lot of Adidas, which run narrow, but I have a wide foot, and they work great just getting a 1/2 size up. Plus it gives you extra length in the toebox so you don't get black toenails.

It's hard for me to find a half size larger. Unfortunately, I wear a 12 in normal shoes, and thus a 13 in running shoes. 12.5s are very, very, very rare, and I think 13.5s are even more rare, if they even make them. And I'm pretty sure 14s would be waaaay to big. So far, 13s have been working well for me, I've never lost a toenail or gotten a black one.

Got it. Yeah, you'll probably be happy with the MT110s then.
