You're right... it usually *is* available... but I'm still not quite sure if I like it or not - nor if I am even doing it right. Any tips on making the workout more effective?

I think it's pretty intuitive, but this I found a couple sites that do a decent job of showing body position at different points. For example, http://www.fitness-programs-for-life.com/rowing_machine.html
So cool that you are doing St. Anthony's tri! I am sure you will do great! I want to train for a tri next year. :-)

Wow - this was a very helpful site - thanks, Brandi! I will have to play with the resistance until I find a comfortable setting. As far as a tri - well, if you start training, let me know... besides all the cool people on DailyMile who will keep you motivated, there are a few great sites/books that I use to train, too. :)
