Tired today, too long a gap since my last outing. Kept it easy.
I am a performer. Growing up as a musician and formerly a dancer, I am ingrained with a culture of using my body a certain way: you dance with all the energy and effort required to perform, you play all the way to the end, full-out. If your leg hurts, if your heart hurts, if you feel ill, even if the audience walks out, no matter what... you perform. The old adage "the show must go on...": it must, and it does.
I have realized that running is not like that for me. It doesn't have to be. I'm learning to listen to my body and speed up or slow down as needed. It sounds basic and simple, but it's not what I'm used to. This is a good learning process.
